Thrive Treatment’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) in Los Angeles is designed for clients who require support in early sobriety, creating a treatment plan that caters to unique needs while supporting wellness while living outside of the treatment facility.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a dedicated recovery program for those living off-site from a treatment center. During these programs, you continue to meet with peers and professionals throughout the week to engage in effective addiction treatment, mental health treatment, individual and group therapy sessions, and holistic healing options to address your needs for both overcoming addiction and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Despite living at your own residence, this level of care still ensures that you have access to professional clinicians, dedicated treatment programs, and a supportive environment for continuing to address your unique needs in overcoming addiction.
At Thrive Treatment, those engaged in our intensive outpatient program will be required to attend a minimum of three days a week, with daily programs lasting about three hours each. However, for those looking for additional support in their IOP program, you can attend up to five days a week, depending on your needs and goals in overcoming mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
At Thrive Treatment℠ we accept most private insurance plans and we are in network with Cigna, Optum, First Health, and Anthem Blue Cross. Additional payment options are available so don’t hesitate to give us a call so we can get you the help that you need.

Because our intensive outpatient program allows you to continue living on your own and engaging in daily life, it is best suited for working professionals and those with a strong at-home support system. Likewise, those overcoming substance use disorder, mental health issues, and dual diagnosis can have many challenges, and some practiced coping strategies while living in the “real world” are recommended to prevent relapse while outside of the treatment facility.
Those who are continuing to tend to other daily responsibilities, from a job to academic pursuits, can also benefit from IOP treatment, empowering you to balance these important parts of your life with continued sober healing and recovery goals.
An intensive outpatient program is also more affordable than residential care options and can be a great way to receive effective care while on a budget. We at Thrive Treatment are always willing to work with you to explore health care plans and insurance to understand your coverage and find the right program for you.
Lastly, those who have graduated from a residential treatment program or their time at our partner partial hospitalization program (PHP), The Last House, may also benefit from an intensive outpatient program as they transition back into the “real world.” Feeling this additional support while confronting new stresses, challenges, and more can be instrumental in developing effective relapse prevention strategies and stress management techniques to maintain your hard-earned sobriety.
However, an IOP is not for everyone, and those who have not navigated detox or who may benefit from a more intensive treatment to address behavioral health needs may instead begin with inpatient care to develop coping skills and strategies before taking on the responsibilities and challenges of outpatient care.

Our intensive outpatient program in Los Angeles is a crucial stepping stone for those transitioning to life outside of a curated recovery space in residential treatment or sober living. The support provided during this transition is vital for relapse prevention and helping you address new stresses that may manifest once you live outside the walls of a recovery facility.
Recovery and healing are not journeys that are traditionally “completed,” and they do not come with a definitive end date. Rather, recovery is a continuously evolving journey, requiring tweaks and adjustments throughout many stages of healing.
IOPs provide an opportunity to build a new, sober routine around available healing programs, providing structure while still allowing enough freedom to explore what your life can be in sobriety.
Each day in our IOP comes with many advantages and opportunities that can support your unique needs in maintaining sobriety outside the treatment facility. This includes:
One of the major advantages of intensive outpatient programs at Thrive Treatment is that we can make a schedule that works for you. You never have to choose between your professional life, academic career, and health. Both morning and afternoon programs are available to help you find the best time for you and your healing journey.
While the cost of an IOP is typically lower than the costs of more intense levels of care, such as residential treatment, the exact cost of these programs can vary, depending on your insurance coverage and healthcare plan. You can always call to discuss insurance and your coverage with us before starting any treatment program, ensuring there are no surprises when pursuing outpatient care.
Difficulty managing urges and cravings in daily life, balancing ongoing sobriety with workplace stresses, or when cravings begin to interfere with personal responsibilities can all be signs that a person may benefit from an IOP. Likewise, those stepping down from higher levels of care should also explore this option to receive support while transitioning out of a curated recovery space to prevent relapse. Noticing an increase in mental health needs, romanticizing past use of drugs or alcohol, or difficulty balancing responsibilities with daily life in sobriety can all be signs that an IOP may be a good fit to address these needs.
These programs last about 8 to 12 weeks on average, but there is no definite “end date," and a person may continue to engage in an IOP if needed. However, graduating from an IOP does not mean that a person is done navigating healing. Rather, ongoing support groups and sober communities are often necessary to stay involved and dedicated to sobriety while developing new skills.
An IOP works by providing support to those who are otherwise living their own daily lives outside of a treatment facility. With regular, flexible sober meetings and therapy, you attend on-site therapy sessions, individual therapy, and group therapy before returning to your daily life and responsibilities outside of the treatment facility. This is ideal for working professionals, students, or those with additional responsibilities at home, so they do not have to choose between their own health and their responsibilities.
Absolutely. While overcoming addiction is still challenging and takes a lot of hard work, the support of an IOP can provide new ideas, perspectives, and professional support for managing new stresses that may arise. Having access to trained professionals, sympathetic peers, and a place of belonging is paramount, providing resources, acceptance, and an atmosphere of change that can make all the difference in a recovery journey.
IOPs can help you balance your needs in recovery from addiction and mental health disorders with your responsibilities in daily life. Learn how we can support your ongoing sober change at (855) 232-1334.
