Overview of Teen Outpatient Treatment
It is common for adolescents and teens to experiment with drugs or alcohol, and a quarter of people who started using addictive substances before the age of 18 become addicted. Teens are more prone to developing an addiction than adults partially because the human brain does not develop fully until we are in our mid-20s. This means that our ability to make decisions, solve problems, and form behaviors are all still developing when we are in our teenage years.
Teens have skewed judgment and an inability to make smart decisions based on understanding the consequences of their actions. It is difficult for an adolescent brain to see the big picture of how actions can affect the course of a person’s life. Therefore, when a teen develops an addiction to harmful substances, they are automatically more fragile and susceptible to long-term deficiencies, and it is imperative to seek help.
Outpatient treatment offers teens who are struggling with addiction the ability to recover from the comfort of their homes, surrounded by family and a support system that they trust. Family support is crucial for a teen’s long-term recovery and by allowing your teenager to continue attending school, you will help boost their confidence and keep them on track with their education. Because a teen is typically at home under the care of a parent or guardian, it is important that with outpatient treatment programs parents, siblings, and loved ones are available to work through treatment exercises together. This allows the entire family to heal and will help prevent the recovering teen from relapsing.
Thrive Treatment offers intensive outpatient treatment for teens who are suffering from addiction to drugs or alcohol. At our teen treatment center, our goal is to provide comprehensive therapeutic and educational services to teens and adolescents who are struggling with addiction. We want both the teen and the family to be able to work through the addiction as a team, and we provide resources necessary for both. Communication is a difficult thing for parents to master, therefore we also teach parents and family how to speak to their struggling teens in a constructive way. Our mission at Thrive is to help our clients establish healthy behaviors and relationships that bring about lasting sobriety and long-term happiness through outpatient rehabilitation.

What is Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Teens?
Thrive Treatment offers outpatient care for teens and adolescents suffering from addiction to drugs and alcohol in California. Through our intensive outpatient care treatment program, we offer a flexible schedule for our clients. Our program is offered in mornings and afternoons, and we require a minimum attendance commitment of 3 hours per day, 3 days a week. The maximum outpatient program is offered 3 hours per day, 5 days a week.
The intensity of our treatment program depends on the level of care that each client requires. We offer an initial evaluation to determine what would be best for each client, and we tailor the program to meet each person’s individual needs. Our program consists of a variety of therapeutic groups with both individual and group sessions that are designed to address both addiction and potential underlying mental health conditions.
Our program is facilitated by expert medical professionals and master class level clinicians who use a multi-modal approach to treatment. Some of the treatment provided by our staff include cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness meditation, relapse prevention, and aftercare recommendations.
At Thrive Treatment, we specialize in helping teens and adolescents who we believe have incredibly promising futures ahead. There are so many factors that can propel addiction, and we want our clients to know that they are not alone, they are safe, and there is a way out of this way of life. Addiction overtakes a person’s life, and teenagers have trouble understanding that there is a long, prosperous road ahead that does not involve substance abuse. Opting for intensive outpatient treatment can make all the difference for a teen and for their family and loved ones.
Benefits of Teen Outpatient Treatment
The level of treatment offered to addicts varies depending on how severe the addiction is. For teens and adolescents who do not require 24-hour supervision by medical professionals, an intensive outpatient treatment program is the best option. Teenagers can be resistant to change and may not take to new environments, therefore participating in an outpatient treatment program from the comfort of their homes may be the best option for recovery.
Other benefits that come from opting for intensive outpatient treatment include the parental involvement that can be worked into the program. Teenagers who suffer from addiction are typically suffering from something they feel like they cannot solve through communicating with family or loved ones, and by including family in the program, we help streamline communication between teens and their parents to set themselves up for a more open relationship moving forward. Sometimes, it may feel like teens and their parents are speaking a different language, and teens often feel like their parents ‘don’t get it,’ but through our treatment program, we can improve these important relationships and work through the thinking behind why and how the communication may be broken.
Additionally, outpatient treatment offers the least intrusive means of recovery for teens and young adults. Falling behind in school may be a huge concern for teens who need rehabilitation, and through our flexible program, kids can continue their schoolwork and not fall behind as they work through their recovery.
